As you may remember, I recently told you that Colin Farrell (In Bruges, Minority Report) would be stepping up to the acting pad for the next season of True Detective and that rumours were that Vince Vaughn (Wedding Crashers) and Rachel McAdams (About Time) would also be joining the Emmy winning HBO show.
Well, I can tell you now both will indeed be acting alongside the Irishman. Vaughn is taking on the role as Frank Semyon, a career criminal who is facing the fall of his empire, while rumour is that McAdams will play a no-nonsense female sheriff. HBO confirmed Vaughn’s casting via The Playlist two days ago and McAdams was confirmed via Variety just last night. The story is said to follow “three police officers and a career criminal who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.”
So far we also know that Farrell plays Ray Velcoro, a “compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him”. The fourth lead role is expected to go to Taylor Kitsch (John Carter, Friday Night Lights) but nothing official has been announced yet. I must say, I think choosing this talented group of actors is a good idea, and with Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious) also now confirmed by HBO to be directing the first two episodes, I think we are in for some magic. I even think the show will visit the Emmy’s again.
Watch this space for the last few casting announcements!
