NPD the stats company that tracks gaming in the US have just released the total sales data for the entire year. This is the first full year of all 3 consoles being on the market there and is therefore now a benchmark for things to come.
Hardware
Wii – 6.29 million
360 – 4.62 million
PS2 – 3.97 million
PS3 – 2.56 million
So you can see that Sony are still making a huge amount of profit on the PS2 but I think they may be a little upset that it beat out the PS3 over the year. That should start to change this year though. Obviously Nintendo are just happy at the moment.
Software Titles
01. Halo 3 (Xbox 360) – 4,820,000
02. Wii Play with Remote (Wii) – 4,120,000
03. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Xbox 360) – 3,040,000
04. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (PS2) – 2,720,000
05. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) – 2,520,000
06. Pokemon Diamond (DS) – 2,480,000
07. Madden NFL 08 (PS2) – 1,900,000
08. Guitar Hero II (PS2) – 1,890,000
09. Assassin’s Creed (Xbox 360) – 1,870,000
10. Mario Party 8 (Wii) – 1,820,000
The fact that there isn’t a single PS3 title in the top 10 for the year has to be upsetting for Sony especially since their direct competition had 3 in the top 10 and two of those were cross platform titles.
