Crysis 3 gets its first review

1 min read

With Dead Space 3 and Aliens: Colonial Marines out of the way, the next big game on the horizon (joining Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance) is Crysis 3. The last Crysis game was a little divisive; console gamers loved it – but the master race seems to have been left a little disappointed by what they felt was a dumbed-down console game. Crysis 3’s received its first review courtesy of Polish magazine CD-Action. What did they think?

Apparently they liked it a whole lot; giving the “next gen” shooter a 9/10. that’s a nice score – but as we’ve said innumerable times before, it’s probably best not to trust reviews that are too  early. The more interesting bits of info to be gleamed from the review say that you can expect a better level of facial animation than was seen in L.A Noire – which is quite a bold claim.

The other really interesting thing is they say that the single player campaign is just 5 hours long on normal difficulty – and that includes doing side missions. It probably doesn’t include cut-scenes, deaths and the like – but it still seems awfully short.

With Crytek being so focused on tech rather than games I can actually see that being unfortunately true. Thankfully Crysis 3 does have some rather extensive multiplayer including the excellent hunter mode.

While we’re on the subject of Crysis 3, have you seen the game’s latest trailer – an odd throwback to 90’s video game commercials? I love that it doesn’t take itself too seriously – but it’s cheesy as all hell.

I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
