Silicon Knights has to destroy their games

"Hey, let's play X-Men Destiny!" - No one, ever.

Cast your mind back to 2007. The final Harry Potter book arrived, the Writers Guild of America went on strike and the Japanese discover a 2100 year old melon. In other, more gaming related news from that year, Silicon Knights also launched a lawsuit against Epic over issues with the Unreal Engine. Did the developers of Too Human win that case? Nope! And now, they not only have to fork over some cash to Epic, but they’re going to have to destroy all their hard work as well.

Silicon Knights has been ordered to pay Epic $4.45 million in damages, as well as destroy all games that they built with the Unreal engine. That’s a list of games that includes Too Human, The Box/Ritualyst, The Sandman, X-Men: Destiny and Siren in the Maelstrom. It seems that the original claim of the Unreal engine being sabotaged and having an impact on their games, has been put to rest once and for all.

As Eurogamer mentioned, that also means that any future production of those games must now be discontinued, and the actual source files from which they were created, shoved into the recycling bin. Adding to that headache, Silicon Knights also has to pay for the transport and pick-up when they recall their games from retailers.

The plus side to this though, is that any of these games which may still be sealed, could become collector’s edition, because people will need to know the majesty and glory of such games as Too Human and X-Men Destiny, pinnacles of great gameplay ideas and oh who am I kidding, those games were garbage.
