I am happy to admit that I really did expect the Wii to have regained it’s throne in Japan by now but apparently everyone in Japan now has a Wii and now they are turning to the PS3 for their gaming desires.
The latest Japanese sales are out and even more surprising than the PS3 outselling the Wii is that the Xbox 360 has suddenly found a second wind and is now banging on the Wii’s door.
And to round up our tri-fecta of the weird and wacky Japanese sales figures we come to the fact that the PSP outsold the Nintendo DSi… though to be fair if you add the DS Lite and DSi sales together it still trumps the PSP.

PSP: 40,886 Â 7,232 (15.03%)
DSi: 40,673 Â 13,007 (24.23%)
PS3: 16,701 Â 3,661 (17.98%)
Wii: 13,349 Â 2,176 (14.02%)
Xbox 360: 10,134 Â 2,322 (29.72%)
DS Lite: 6,869 Â 1,860 (21.31%)
PS2: 4,531 Â 863 (16.00%)

Great to see PS3 sales picking up. It’ll be interesting to see these numbers when Final Fantasy XII hits.
