I just received a lovely package from Ster-Kinekor, the local distributors of all things Sony. Large, heavy, and adorned with the infamous PlayStation face buttons, I thought I might just have received a PlayStation Vita review unit – I mean, it’s an easy thing to assume, right?

I hastily opened the box, to find this beautiful blue box inside. Totally a Vita, right?

Well, no. Sliding it out of its outer shell reveals it to contain…a promotional book, highlighting the Vita’s features. It’s a beautiful, glossy, well constructed coffee table book – telling me absolutely nothing I didn’t already know about Sony’s new handheld. Cool to have – but I can’t play games on it. So, thanks for that bit of cruelty.

I’m expecting a link to a Rick Astley video from you soon.

Editor. I’m old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time – they were capable of being masterpieces. I’m here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
