Machete gets ready to kill again

The original Machete was a gory, bloody, action-packed film that more than made up for Robert Rodriguez directing numerous Spy Kids films, and while the site of Danny Trejo having his way with Lindsay Lohan and her on-screen mom may be more unsettling than back to back showings of the Human Centipede, it was still a fine film overall, filled with cheesy grindhouse moments and Don Johnson.

And now, it seems that Director Robert Rodriguez wants to make another Machete film, as the one man film crew has announced that he plans to start shooting in April.

“The fan response to the Machete character has been fanatical since his first appearance,” Rodriguez said in a statement that Deadline picked up. “Machete is truly a super hero and Machete Kills will be bigger and more ambitious than the first time.”

With a new script written by Kyle Ward that Rodriguez and his brother Marcel polished, Machete Kills will have Danny Trejo back in the title role, recruited by the US Government to track down and put a stop to the crazy shenanigans of a cartel leader and super-rich arms dealer who want to launch space-weapons.

Whether Rodriguez will tackle this project as a solo director or bring back Ethan Maniquis to help him co-direct is unclear at this point, but the further adventures of the former Federale with a passion for bladed weapons is certain to please numerous action-film fans when it releases.

This awesome news can only be made better by the confirmation that Lohan will be returning as well

Apparently paying her in ‘pounds’ is cheaper than paying her in US dollars.
