Cowabunga! Jonathan Liebesman gets Turtle Power!

The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a blast when it came out so many years ago. I still remember going to the drive-in theatre to go watch it, while my father shook his head and decided that more booze was necessary to understand the film.

For both of us. A year later, a sequel arrived, and while it wasn’t as good as the original (SUPAH-SHREDDAH!) it was still a fun film. And then the third Turtles movie arrived, putting a bullet in the franchise with its inane plot and ridiculous one-liners.

Since then, the franchise has been around in one form or another, from a campy live-action show to a rebooted cartoon series and then a more spirited CGI film that was far more faithful to the source material.

But hey, nothing beats a proper attempt at bringing back the turtle power, right?

Paramount is currently in development on a live-action reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Platinum Dunes, who are more well known for their rather excellent horror film remakes such as Friday the 13th and A nightmare on Elm Street are going to be producing the film, while Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec are handling script duties, fresh off of their work on the fourth Mission Impossible.

Johnathan “Battle Los Angeles” is currently a lock to direct the reboot, Variety reports, which should suit his big budget, high octane style perfectly. Just promise us that we don’t have to sit through 90 minutes of Michaelangelo bitching about a lack of pizza, and we’re all set for a nostalgic summer, okay?

Plus, more Casey Jones would also be a massive bonus.

  1. Wot about April O’ Neill in her yellow jumpsuit?
And are we gonna see Krang?
Hell, what about the Shredder?  He was absent from the CGI movie…  As was Bebop and Rocksteady…
Or wait wait.  I wanna see Osagi Yojimbo, that samurai rabbit…  Ah… the good ole days…

I caught the old cartoon on telly a while back and was surprised by how (intentionally) funny the whole thing was. Pretty impressive for a kids cartoon.

As for the movie, meh. Whatever
