I’m not sure how much of a spoiler warning this requires as this is merely official confirmation of what has been known via unofficial set reports for a while now. However, if you prefer to go into Chris Nolan’s final Batman film with as little foreknowledge as possible, then I suggest you go click on something else. Here, try this for example.
For the rest of you brave souls, read on to see exactly which character will be making a slightly unexpected but warmly welcomed appearance in The Dark Knight Rises.
A short while back, Liam Neeson was briefly spotted on the set of Dark Knight Rises. The rumour was that it wasn’t just a social call, but that he was actually there to reprise his role of Ra’s al Ghul from Batman Begins. But now Warner Bros has inadvertently officially confirmed his involvement with a press release for Wrath of the Titans, in which Neeson is currently starring.
“Neeson next appears in Peter Berg’s actioner Battleship, and he also will be seen in Christopher Nolan’s much-anticipated action thriller The Dark Knight Rises.”
Now Ra’s had already been credited as appearing in Dark Knight Rises, but as his younger and assumed flashback version played by actor Josh Pence. But Neeson’s appearance raised a few interesting questions, such as exactly how he overcame that severe bout of death he contracted at the end of Batman Begins.
Now it’s likely that he isn’t at all back from the dead, but rather that he will also be involved in some sort of flashback. This seems an even more plausible scenario when you consider just how brief his stay on the set actually was.
Either way though, his reappearance does two things; namely lending even more weight to the theory that Marion Cotillard’s Miranda Tate is just a cover for Ra’s daughter (and Batman’s baby momma in the comics), Talia as Ghul, as well showing director Chris Nolan’s cool intent to bring the entire trilogy full circle.
So what do you guys think? Is Ra’s return just going to be a few scenes from the past, or are you – like me – hoping for some Lazarus Pit action?

Yeah, no big surprise, though that is a bit of a slip-up and Nolan must be pretty annoyed

Would have liked the spoiler alert to not be a millimeter above the actual spoiler picture.
Spoiler alert rendered useless…

Seems likely as a flashback as the Lazarus Pit does not fit into Nolan’s Batman universe. However I remember some set pics last year which could be interpreted as a Lazarus Pit so who the hell knows?

Yep, that’s exactly what I was thinking of. Here are the pics, for those that haven’t seen them before:

I never actually saw a body for Ra’s at the end of Begins, so really there’s every reason to not be surprised if he shows his face again.
