Welcome to the HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA in this new full trailer!

One day, when I’m a father, I’ll tell my kids about the days of long, loooooong ago, when Adam Sandler was still funny. They won’t believe me, of course, what with all the readily available evidence and all.

But then I’ll tell them about the an animated film Hotel Transylvania, where for a short while, Sandler actually appeared to have regained his lost funny spark, as he played the overprotective Count Dracula, trying to protect his daughter from the evil human boy who has accidentally stumbled into his secret monsters retreat.

While the humour of this appears to be aimed more towards kids rather than young-at-heart adults (which I realize is a weird thing to say, seeing it’s essentially kid’s cartoons and all), I still find something oddly charming about the film. Maybe it’s just my love of the classic movie monsters, or the fact that for once Sandler is not playing the foul-mouthed, loser man-child again (It’s not so much typecasting anymore, as it is a contract stipulation.)

Also, that suit of armour groin-shot joke is just the type of comedy ghoul’d (see what I did there?) that director Genndy Tartakovsky kept me entertained with for a number of years in my youth with Dexter’s Lab. His later Samurai Jack and Star Wars: Clone Wars series  (not to be confused with the current CGI series) also offered some of the best thrills that a boy’s parents’ DSTV subscription could buy.

Synopsis:

Welcome to the “Hotel Transylvania”, Dracula’s lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up, free from meddling from the human world. But here’s a little known fact about Dracula: he is not only the Prince of Darkness; he is also a dad. Over-protective of his teenage daughter, Mavis, Dracula fabricates tales of elaborate dangers to dissuade her adventurous spirit. As a haven for Mavis, he opens the Hotel Transylvania, where his daughter and some of the world’s most famous monsters – Frankenstein and his bride, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, a family of werewolves, and more – can kick back in safety and peace. For Drac, catering to all of these legendary monsters is no problem – but his world could come crashing down when one ordinary guy stumbles on the hotel and takes a shine to Mavis.
