You know how after you throw a party, you clean up the next day as best you can, but like a week down the line, you have some guests over again and embarrassingly they somehow find stale chips in the weirdest nooks and crannies? Well, Marvel’s latest One-Shot short film, Item 47, is sort of like that. Except, instead of just old Cheese Curls, down on their luck couple Benny and Claire find a leftover giant alien space gun, leaving S.H.I.E.L.D. agents more than just slightly embarrassed as the couple decide to go on a crime spree.

Directing this modern day Bonny and Clyde story spinning out of the aftermath of The Avengers, is actually Marvel Studios Co-president, Louis D’Esposito, and he recently discussed how the film came to be with him at the helm. Also a first look at the film itself after the jump.

The interview with D’Esposito comes courtesy of Collider, and besides for discussing Item 47 and all the challenges that went into making it, he also touches on Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man (which totally doesn’t sound like a dirty sentence at all, right?) as well as the prospect of Marvel/Disney making some R-Rated films in the future.

For just about anybody who’s seen Thomas Jane’s brilliantly violent Punisher short film, Dirty Laundry, which we’ve been drooling over since yesterday, the talk of Marvel not being that open to a hard R-Rated film must feel like a kick to the gonads, especially since they now once again own the character film rights. From a business point of view, I understand that it makes complete sense to not cut out a huge portion of your audience due to age restrictions, but some stories need that extra level of mature content to truly be told properly.

Along with D’Esposito’s interview, Marvel have also released these two clips, which give us our first look at the film. The first clip is courtesy of Entertainment Weekly,  Jesse Bradford and the always charming Lizzie Caplan’s Benny and Claire, as they get ready to engage in some dubious activities.

The second clip is way, waaaaay shorter, only clocking in at 9 seconds, but it highlights the two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Sitwell and Blake, played by Maximiliano Hernández and Titus Welliver (who just seems born to play morally gray characters) respectively, who are set on the trail of Benny and Claire and their stolen weaponry.

Item 47 will be found on The Avengers Blu Ray which will be released on September 25th, 2012.

It’s the name of the short film, as well the name given by SHIELD to the missing alien weapon.
