Sad news today, as veteran film director and brother to Ridley “Prometheus” Scott, Tony Scott, has died in an apparent suicide. The 68 year old director leapt from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro at 12:35pm yesterday, jumping “without hesitation” according to police reports. A suicide note was found in his office later.

Scott has had a long career, creating classic films such as Top Gun, The Last Boy Scout and Man on Fire. Currently, his mini-series Coma was receiving positive reviews, while recent films such as Unstoppable and The Taking of Pelham 123 proved to be successful at the box office.

As for his future slate of work, Scott was working on a Top Gun sequel, a real-life drama called Shadow Divers, a biker film titled Hell’s Angels and an action drama named Lucky Strike.

There’s no word yet as to the exact reasons for his death, but details will most likely surface later this week.

Such a consistently-great action movie maker. There were rumours of him directing the possible 24 movie, which had me squeeing. RIP sir.

Hopefully his go-to composer, Harry Gregson-Williams, has something planned for his memorial.

I can’t believe how much this news saddened me. Of all the celebrities who have passed away in the last couple of years, this was undoubtedly the one that hit me the hardest, as Scott has provided me with some of my favourite movie moments over the years.

The world is undoubtedly a little crappier today.

Absolutely. The man made Denzel Washington even more badass than usual in Man on Fire, as well as one of my cult favourites, The Last Boy Scout.

      A great loss, today.

Not to mention that he did a much better job than Oliver Stone at adapting a Tarantino script…
