Christian Bale. Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper and Amy Adams. Batman, Hawkeye, the pretty boy from A-Team and Superman’s girlfriend. Between them they’ve battled homicidal clowns, world conquering demigods, the laws of physics and the worlds least effective disguise. But if these new set pics for David O. Russell’s (The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook) latest film, American Hustle, are anything to go by, they may just be about to face their biggest challenge yet: 1970’s fashion.

The film is based on the true story of a notorious financial con artist (Christian Bale) and his mistress/partner in crime (Amy Adams), who were forced to work with an out of control federal agent (Bradley Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters, and politicians. At the epicenter of the entire tale, is the passionate and volatile leader of the New Jersey state assembly (Jeremy Renner) who is also the local hero and mayor of impoverished Camden.

Russell has been on quite the directorial tear lately, with his last two films – The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook – not only bringing home tons of awards gold, but also coaxing some the finest performances of their careers out of his actors. And now he appears to be doing the same for their hair. I mean seriously, is Jeremy Renner’s do sculpted from molten lava?

American Hustle will be styling into cinemas on December 13, 2013.
