If I’ve been beating the Only God Forgives drum a fair bit around here lately, it’s not because a) I want to see Ryan Gosling’s pretty face or b) I’m jealous of Ryan Gosling’s pretty face and want to see it walloped like a red-haired stepchild. The fact is that Drive, Gosling’s previous collaboration with writer-director Nicolas Winding Refn, was just that damn good. It was shockingly violent, yet at the same time exhibited an effortless coolness, thanks to a killer soundtrack and a captivating lead.

And looking at this new trailer for Only God Forgives, Gosling and Refn are just producing more of same blood spattered, neon lit, sub-zero coolness.

Julian (Ryan Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Kristin Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.

Only God Forgives will be picking a fight with international audiences on July 19, 2013. There’s no local release date set yet.

Its a killer track, but if you’re prone to seizures from strobing effects then you best make sure your affairs are in order before watching it.

Ryan Gosling is doing some amazing work atm. Managed to catch The Place Beyond The Pines recently and was blown away, again.
I def wanna see this, Winding-Refn is a fantastic director who knows how to crank up the tension in his films.

If this film holds out, I’ll definitely look up the rest of his work.
