Every director in Hollywood has a signature style when it comes to making movies. For George Lucas, that would be midgets and plot holes, while Michael Bay has baysplosions and tight camera angles. For Terry Gilliam, that style happens to be creating a world that borders on visual LSD.
And buddy, prepare to trip the light fantastic with this trailer for his next film, in which Gilliam searches for the reason behind existence in Zero Theorem.
An eccentric and reclusive computer genius plagued with existential angst works on a mysterious project aimed at discovering the purpose of existence – or the lack thereof -once and for all. However, it is only once he experiences the power of love and desire that he is able to understand his very reason for being.
That’s pretty much vintage Gilliam right there, but it’s always amazing to see how he manages to merge practical effects with a little bit of CGI wizardry. Zero Theorem is looking damn intriguing so far, and with a cast that includes Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swinton, Gilliam has a film on his hands with some real heavyweight acting talent.
Zero Theorem will be searching for the meaning of life later this year, and also stars Ben Whishaw, Mélanie Thierry, David Thewlis, Matt Damon and Lucas Hedges.
