To many people, Zach Braff is just that funny guy from Scrubs who kept people laughing for 8.5 seasons and then totally bailed on the show. To other people though, he’s also the writer/director of Garden State, the acclaimed 2004 dramedy that he made for just $2.5 million, and which has become a bit of a major cult favourite. Fans have been asking for Braff to get behind the camera for another feature film since then, but it took him nearly 10 years to respond to them. Sort of.
Last year Braff followed in the footsteps of that other cool kid on the block, Veronica Mars, and took to Kickstarter to raise funds for his second directorial effort. He needed to raise $2 million to make the film, Wish I Was Here, and did it in just 3 days. Clearly, people love Zach Braff.
And now, to show that Zach Braff loves those people right back, here’s the first trailer for Wish I Was Here which looks like just the type of quirky, heartfelt, funny and unique little film that I love. Throwing a spaceman and a flying robot in there, certainly doesn’t hurt either.
“Wish I Was Here” is Braff’s follow-up to his indie breakout hit “Garden State.” “Wish I Was Here” was directed by Zach Braff from a screenplay he wrote with his brother, Adam; and stars Zach Braff along with Kate Hudson, Mandy Patinkin, Josh Gad, Ashley Greene, Joey King and Pierce Gagnon. “Wish I Was Here” tells the story of a thirty-something man who finds himself at a major crossroads, which forces him to examine his life, his career, and his family.
Wish I Was Here stars Zach Braff, Kate Hudson, Mandy Patinkin, Josh Gad, Ashley Greene, Joey King, Pierce Gagnon and Donald Faison, will be opening in limited theatres on July 18, 2014.

Cool. I need to see the first one actually. Guy has done very well for himself.
