When it comes to Chris Nolan movies, details about them are usually locked down tighter than a signed Nkandla receipt. So it comes with some surprise that the first full trailer for the super-clandestine writer-director’s latest flick, Interstellar, actually tells us a bit about what is actually going on. Note: I said “a bit”. Nolan hasn’t turned into an Amazing Spider-Man 2 ad campaign by any stretch of imagination.

And speaking of which, it looks like this film is going to be giving our imagination a bit of a stretch, as it seems to be literally spanning the cosmos, only this time it’s Matthew McConaughey and not Carl Sagan that’s our guide.

This feels a bit like another sci-fi movie McConaughey starred in, Contact, and that is definitely not a bad thing. Its been a while since we got some proper sense of wonder sci-fi, instead of just pew-pew lasers. There’s more than likely still a crap load to the movie (like that giant space marble would attest), but when it comes to Nolan and movies not named The Dark Knight Rises, I’m a gigantic fanboy, so my ticket on this space trip is already booked.

Interstellar also stars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Ellen Burstyn, John Lithgow, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, Wes Bentley, Bill Irwin, Mackenzie Foy, Topher Grace and David Gyasi, and will be blasting off on November 7, 2014.

I take offense to your pew pew lasers comment. I like my pew pew lasers. Then again I liked contact as well.

I love pew pew too. I also love this type of hard sci-fi, but we just get it far too infrequently.
