Putting aside jokes of AnalRapists and mistaking Oz for the Wizard of Oz, does the world need more Arrested Development? Definitely, though fans are divided on whether we want another Season 4. As you may recall, Arrested Development enjoyed a three season run before being canceled due to ballooning costs. Since then there have been calls to resurrect the show, which finally happened last year when Netflix picked it up.
But there was a problem: the schedules of the show’s stars did not align, especially for Michael Cera. The result was a collection of episodes that felt rather odd and didn’t quite reflect the chemistry of the original series. This is something Netflix admitted was a problem. Talking to USA Today, the streaming service revealed its plans for the future of the show:
Sarandos is also “positive” that another season of Arrested Development is in the offing: “It’s just a matter of when,” he says, adding that sorting out actors’ schedules is a concern: It was “a fair criticism” of last year’s revival of the cult comedy “that the cast didn’t appear on screen often enough together.”
Actor Will Arnett confirmed that the cast is on board for a fifth season:
“Yeah, we are gonna do more Arrested Development,” Will revealed on the Today show on August 7. “[Netflix CEO] Ted Sarandos and Netflix kinda let the cat out of the bag on that one. It’s something we all want to do, so we’re excited.”
Season 4 was not bad at all, but it struck a different tone for the show and took something away from enjoying the exploits of the Bluth family. Still, it did confirm that there is still a lot of life left for Arrested Development. It was also a gamble that paid off for Netflix, opening the door for its own original content such as House Of Cards and Orange Is the New Black. And Cera’s last major role was to be impaled in This Is the End, so he can probably make the time…
