I was completely blown away by the surprise 2014 hit The LEGO Movie partly because, well, Batman. Voiced by Will Arnett, the character had audiences crying with laughter and begging for more. Well according to THR it looks like they won’t have to wait that much longer as not only is a LEGO Batman spinoff movie in the works, but the production has been fast tracked for a 2017 release.
As awesome as that news is, there is a catch: The second installment of The LEGO Movie is now going to have to take a backseat, releasing sometime after 2017.
The LEGO Movie animation supervisor Chris McKay, who was originally supposed to helm the The LEGO Movie sequel, will now take charge of this spinoff project along with writer Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter). It is expected that Arnett will once again reprise his role as the arrogant, sarcastic and bro-tastic Dark Knight. Original directors/producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will once again join with producers Roy Lee and Dan Lin, so we are pretty much in for an insanely awesome ride again!
