Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • Earlier in the year, Jena Malone was spotted on the set of Baman v Superman: Lawn of Lushness. Immediately theories sprung up as to which character she could be playing, while Nick others thought that maybe she just missed Zack Snyder, her Sucker Punch director and wanted to hang out. But now, thanks to a very chatty extra, it’s been sort of confirmed who she will be and it’s a doozie! Obviously, this was being kept hush hush for a reason, so don’t click that link if you want to avoid what could be a big SPOILER.
  • Remember that chatty extra we just spoke about? (It was just a couple lines ago, so f you don’t, you may just have early onset Alzheimers and should go see a doctor). Well, besides for being “chatty” he/she’s about to be “drowning in debt”. By gabbing off about Jena Malone’s role, the extra broke the non-disclosure agreement that all cast and crew on Batman vs Superman reportedly signed, and as a result is now reportedly being fined up to $5 million! And you thought it was bad when you spoke about your co-workers behind their back?!
  • Have you seen that incredible last trailer for Chris Nolan’s Interstellar? Didn’t it remind you of Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs? No? Well, then you clearly haven’t seen this mashup trailer yet.

  • How’s this for a bit of Indiana Jonesing? Archeologists have uncovered a 15-foot tall giant Sphinx thought lost to time. The catch? It’s the plast prop used in Cecil B. DeMille’s 1923 classic The Ten Commandments. The Sphinx had been hidden in the sand dunes of Guadalupe, California – which had stood in for Egypt in the movie – for the last 9 decades, after it and most of the set had collapsed and was buried due to rain and exposure. This is contrary to the popular urban legend that the crew had actually blown up the set and props once filming had completed.
  • If you were hoping to get your scream on at some Ghost Face in MTV’s upcoming TV series adaptation of Scream, then you may need hold back with the butcher’s knives for a bit. Fan site Ghostface.co.uk spoke to the company that makes replicas of the iconic horror mask and owns the rights to it, and they revealed that “as of now, and during the initial launch that  GHOST FACE®  is not involved in the new format.”
  • Here at The Movies, we pretty much worship Doctor Who. Little did we know, we may actually be worshipping Doctor Who for real.

  • Whether you hate or, well, hate remakes is a moot point, as the practice is not just here to stay, but actually has been staying in Hollywood since soon after movies first began. So yeah, we just have to live with it and expect that sooner or later somebody is going to want to put their own new spin on a popular movie. Unless it’s the planned remake of Eli Roth’s Cabin Fever which is completely spin-less. Travis Zariwny is directing this remake of Roth’s debut film, and will be shooting off of – wait for it – Roth’s actual script from his original movie.

Roth is a bit more optimistic that this won’t just be a verbatim copy of his movie though:

“Travis had an amazing vision for my original script, and as a scary movie fan I really wanted to see it. I almost see this like re-staging a play, and I’m excited to see what ideas Travis and the cast bring to it. They’re all fans of the original and want to make a film that’s a new classic and I believe they will.”

  • And if you’re wondering why we’ve been chatting about superhero movies lately, it’s simply because between Marvel, Warner Bros, Fox and Sony, they’re keeping cinemagoers up to their eyeballs in spandex (which is coincidentally how Nick usually spends Friday nights) for the next decade or so. Just how many superhero movies, you ask? Well, let this handy infographic lay it all out for you.
