Don Quixote. It’s the movie that has had more restarts and facelifts than Joan River’s corpse, a project that director Terry Gilliam has been chasing at much like his literary hero has been chasing down windmills in the classic Miguel De Cervantes novel. But now, the film is finally, finally being made. This time. For realsies. And it’ll star Jack O’Connell as the demented hero of ages past, but with a more contemporary twist.

Reportedly tackling the project for a seventh time, now with a budget of $21 million, Gilliam was feeling positive about his latest attempt to finally make the movie as he explained to Variety:

Seven is my lucky number so let’s break the curse and make it!

Curse is an understatement. In gaming terms, Gilliam’s Don Quixote is The Last Guardian of movies, a project that has never taken off and has been beset by numerous problems. Casting O”Connell is a damn good step to finally finishing the movie however. After turns in Unbroken and ‘71, O’Connell’s star is rising, as the thespian has some serious acting chops. Production is due to kick off soon for a May 2016 release date for Don Quixote, which also has a new synopsis:

A modern and satirical twist on the tale, ‘Don Quixote’ stars O’Connell as Toby, a jaded commercials director who travels to Spain for a shoot and comes across a gypsy who gives a copy of his student film — a lyrical re-working of the Don Quixote story set in a quaint old Spanish village. Moved by the discovery, Toby sets off on a bizarre road trip to find the little village where the student film was shot and gets caught up in a series of catastrophes.

At this point in time, I just want to see the damn film made so that we can all finally move on.
