The word “epic” gets thrown around a lot these days – I’ve personally done my fair share of slinging – and thus it has lost it’s efficacy a tad. But I’ll be damned if this final trailer for the last installment in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy hasn’t just returned the word to it’s former glory.

I was bit pretty tough on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but warmed much more (no thanks to the dragon fire) to its followup The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – enough that I had hopes that The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies would keep up the trend of increasing success. And by Radagast’s poopy face, it looks like they have just kept up the trend but exceeded it!

So I’m going to stop typing now. Not because I have nothing more to say, but rather because I really, really need to go rewatch that trailer ASAP. Also, the goosebumps from my first viewing hasn’t left me yet, so my arms are still way too tingly to be productive.

Go check it out yourselves.

From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson comes “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” the third in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien.

“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.

Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain.

As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

The Hobbit: The Batlle of the Five Armies stars *DEEEEP BREATH* Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Stephen Fry, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, Orlando Bloom, John Bell, Manu Bennett, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Billy Connolly, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Lawrence Makoare, Sylvester McCoy, Graham McTavish, Dean O’Gorman, Mikael Persbrandt, Aidan Turner and a partridge in a pear tree.

It will be making war on cinemas from December 17, 2014.
