One of my favourite authors (who also happens to be South African) is science fiction writer Lauren Beukes. Her most recent book Broken Monsters scared the heck out of me so I am very happy that Endemol Studios has picked it up through its podcast Additional Dialogue. According to Deadline, the dark thriller is to be adapted into a drama series which I think is awesome. I can imagine a dark atmosphere much like that in Hannibal without all the eating of course.

Broken Monsters follows a man who is a little bit, well, mental and has a penchant for attaching humans to animals. Scott Aversano and Tom Gormican of Additional Dialogue will serve as producers and VP Development Jessica Matthews and Director of Development Lydia Storie will oversee the work, Aversano said. “Her clever choice to explore this within the constructs of a supernatural novel – especially one which presents its own horribleness so elegantly – is a delightful paradox.”

Lauren Beukes also wrote the popular Zoo City and Moxyland.
