Fifty Shades of Grey had a massive weekend last week, thanks to Valentines Day and bad taste. The latest weekend however? Numbers plummeted for that film, but it still wasn’t enough to knock it off the top spot. Despite taking a 73% drop – the biggest 2nd week drop in history! – Fifty Shades somehow still led the box office in North American ticket sales, adding another $23.2 million to its coffers.

Meanwhile, new arrivals such as McFarland USA and Hot Tub Time Machine 2 opened to lukewarm results and reviews. Here are the latest box office weekend estimates, fresh out of the Oscar oven:

kingsman0004

  • 50 Shades Of Grey – $23.2 Million
  • Kingsman: The Secret Service – $17.5 Million
  • The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water – $15.5 Million
  • McFarland USA – $11.3 Million
  • The DUFF – $11 Million
  • American Sniper – $9.6 Million
  • Hot Tub Time Machine 2 – $5.8 Million
  • Jupiter Ascending – $3.6 Million
  • The Imitation Game – $2.5 Million
  • Paddington – $2.2 Million

Top ten departures this week include The Wedding Ringer, Project Almanac and Seventh Son. Several years delayed, Seventh Son floundered at the box office, making only $99.6 million internationally so far. Meanwhile, The Wedding Ringer proved to be another hit for star Kevin Hart, making $70 million worldwide off of a $23 million budget so far. As for Project Almanac, that flick is sitting on a current haul of over $26 million so far. Which isn’t bad at all, for a movie that only cost $12 million to make.

HOw is Kingsman not first? HOW????

That movie was bloody brilliant (Please read bloody brilliant in your best British, Colin Firth accent)
In fact… I’d dare say I’d pay again to watch it on the big screen. LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF THAT FREAKING MOVIE!!!

Then you’d be happy to know that Kingsman opened in more international regions this weekend past and did some really good business, pushing it past the $155 million mark. That means that a sequel is looking ever more likely..
