The Battlestar Galactica badass Katee Sackhoff has created her very own TV project – a sci-fi action-drama titled Rain – with Sackhoff starring as the titular Rain.

As per Deadline the project is described as…

…an evolutionary parable that gives us a look into our possible future as a species viewed through the eyes of a soldier named Rain (Sackhoff). It explores how the long-term effects of global warming, the burning of fossil fuels and the scientific manipulation of nature’s balance rot the world and contribute to its decline.

This looks to be a perfect vehicle for Sackhoff, currently appearing in AMC’s (and soon to be Netflix’s) Longmire, whose action chops can’t be questioned. Just make her a soldier working for a corporation instead of a government (which have become ineffective) and it’ll be like she read my mind while writing this. Covert and open wars over resources and fertile land all resulting from climate change – they’re coming or I’ll eat my tinfoil hat.

Sackhoff will team with Reunion Pictures (the people behind Continuum) to produce the show, and Reunion’s Tom Rowe said of the project:

With RainKatee has created a future world and a story that are compelling as both a sweeping vision and a very personal exploration of a civilization in harrowing decline by its own hand. She has written a great story and we are excited to be working with her.

And Sackhoff said of the partnership:

It’s great to be in business with Reunion and Thunderbird [owner of Reunion]. Their credentials in the genre are outstanding and they share my vision in telling a story that means a lot to me.

The concept is something that really excites me, military sci-fi that directly explores one of the greatest challenges currently facing our planet that has consequences for future generations to come? SOLD! Although its environmental message is sure to disappoint those sad puppies who want sci-fi to remain “pure” or die-hard climate denialists. How about you?

Totally keen for this. Science-fiction has always been a vehicle for big issues so really get irritated when some say it is a pure form of story telling. Rubbish.
