IT’S CLOBBERIN’ TIME! The famous battlecry of Aunt Petunia favourite blue-eyed nephew was applied and then some to the latest big screen incarnation of The Fantastic Four. Opening up in a pitiful second place, Fantastic Four took home just $26.2 million in North American ticket sales.

Compared to director Tim Story’s original duo of flicks from the mid-2000s, that was way behind the first film in 2005 ($56 million) and the tepid sequel which banked $58 million in 2007. Fantastic Four suffered from poor word of mouth and reviews, dooming this flick in a way that their eternal Latverian nemesis could only dream of.

Here’s a look at how the rest of the US box office performed:

  • Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation – $29.4 Million
  • Fantastic Four – $26.2 Million
  • The Gift – $12 Million
  • Vacation – $9.1 Million
  • Ant-Man – $7.8 Million
  • Minions – $7.4 Million
  • Ricki And The Flash – $7 Million
  • Trainwreck – $6.3 Million
  • Pixels – $5.4 Million
  • Southpaw – $4.7 Million

Top ten departures from the US box office this week include Inside Out and Jurassic World. Pixar’s latest success took home over $335 million in domestic ticket sales. Meanwhile, Jurassic World was a runaway success, making over $635 million stateside.

Internationally, that flick has already spun plenty of gold, with a foreign box office of $945 million so far, thanks in no small part to China contributing over $228.7 million to that pot.
