Assassins-Creed-Fight1-900x1600

So I watched Hitman: Agent 47 last night. While you’ll have to wait till next week for my full review (stupid review embargoes!) I will tell you now already that it is NOT the fabled great video game adaptation that we’ve been waiting for ever since we first knew what a video game adaptation is.

There’s still hope though that we will achieve this seemingly impossible task, with two high caliber projects in the near future certainly boasting the raw talent and skill to finally claim that prize. One is Doug Liman and Tom Hardy’s Splinter Cell, and the other is Michael Fassbender’s foray into the world of Assassin’s Creed. And with the latter scheduled to start shooting on Monday, we get our first look at Fassbender in costume today, courtesy of Yahoo.

Hot damn that looks good, and practically straight out of the video game series! According to Yahoo, the character you’re looking at here is Callum Lynch. And if you’re asking “Who?” right now, you’re probably not alone.

The hugely popular Assassin’s Creed video game series has mainly followed Desmond Miles, a character in the near future who discovers that he’s the descendant of a long line of Assassins, great warriors who fight against the Knights Templar and their centuries long plot to rule the world using technologies left behind by a nearly godlike race of beings who predated humanity on Earth. Through a device known as an Animus, Desmond is able to unlock his genetic memory and relive the lives of his famous ancestors like Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad in the Crusades, or Ezio Auditore during the Renaissance and Connor during the American Civil War.

You’ll have noticed no mention of a “Callum Lynch” there, and that’s because the movie doesn’t intend to adapt any of the stories already covered in the games, but will introduce a new character into that existing world, exploring a new era. Here’s what Yahoo has to say about Fassbender’s two characters. Yes, two characters:

Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.

Assassin’s Creed is being directed by Justin Kurzel, and also sees Marion Cotillard taking the female lead in some undisclosed role. This will be the second “period piece” team-up for Kurzel, Fassbender and Cotillard, as they’ve just finished the incredible looking Macbeth together.

The film is the first production from the newly created Ubisoft Motion Pictures, the division begun by video game publisher Ubisoft so that they can directly develop adaptations of their own titles instead of handing them over to Hollywood to mess up. They also still have adaptations of the aforementioned Splinter Cell as well as Watch Dogs, Ghost Recon, Rabbids and Far Cry in the pipeline. Assassin’s Creed is the only one with a release date though: December 21, 2016.

Glad to see Ubisoft taking some creative control over the movie so at least we have that.

I saw the trailer for Agent 47 the other night at the movies… What exactly does any of that have to do with the game? It’s yet another game-based-movie by name only… That’s about it. Don’t think I’ll be watching it.

This movie actually has more elements from the game than the previous one did. It’s actually one of the few highlights of it.

Man, that costume looks awesome! Best cosplay ever! 😉

On a serious note, it really does look good… But I’m still weary of what may come. I loved Assassin’s Creed and Assassin’s Creed 2 (AC4 was great too), so I have a soft spot for this franchise. I just hope they do it justice on the big screen.

Damn, looks pretty cool… Let’s hope looks aren’t deceiving when the movie, or even trailer finally hits

The hidden blades are more like hidden pangas!

Looks awesome though. Looks like they are doing the story that the early AC’s were leading into (Using the bleeding effect to become a modern Assassain).
