You don’t get a classier caliber of actor than Bill Murray. The guy is charming, funny, and can act his socks off (yet has never won an Oscar – rigged MUCH?) So adding him to the upcoming – and to some controversial – all-female reboot of the 80s classic Ghostbusters is going to do a lot to silence some people who would use his absence as a reason to boycott the film. That being said it took Murray quite a while to decide to acquiesce to the desires of director Paul Feig (not to mention that it was his continued refusal to be involved in Ghostbusters 3 that kept that movie in development hell for years before it was scrapped in favour of this reboot). Speaking to Vulture the 64-year-old actor said:

I thought about it for a very long time. Like, many, many months. No, that’s not right. I was seriously thinking about this for years, really… It kept eating at me, and I really respect those girls. And then I started to feel like if I didn’t do this movie, maybe somebody would write a bad review or something, thinking there was some sort of disapproval [on my part].

He has a point there. The internet loves putting words into peoples mouths and once there it’s harder to remove than the crayons Trevor so often puts in his ears. Murray admits though that he really didn’t want to appear in the new movie as he was worried he may overshadow them, which, in my opinion, is a valid reason. Still, with the cast and director pushing him he finally agreed:

You know, they were incredibly nice to ask me, and I really enjoyed being there. They have such a jolly group, and they are going to have great success with this project. I didn’t want to overshadow or anything, and I feel really good about it. I like those girls a lot. I mean, I really do. They are tough to say no to. And Paul is a real nice fellow.

Once again Murray proves to be a damn fine fellow. He will appear alongside original Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd and Demi-God Thor, I mean, Chris Hemsworth as they co-star with the new team consisting of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. Expect ghosts everywhere to get busted in July 2016.

Awesome. After seeing Spy I am totally game for the new Ghostbusters. I’ll even retract my previous comments that this is a bit of shoehorning by the studios to address gender imbalances. The new Ghostbusters sounds like a damn good idea and I’m glad Murray is giving it his best blessing with a cameo.

Agreed. After the freshness and silliness of Spy my body is ready!

First bit of good news regarding the reboot… Not too much a fan of Melissa McCarthy, seen too much of her already… But I’m a big fan of the Ghostbusters, so will give this a go… And having Mr. Murray show up can only be a good thing, the Zombieland cameo was awesome
