It would seem that Sony certainly are keen to capitalize on the Ghostbusters franchise currently and in the words of Bill Murray’s character, Peter Venkman: “No job is too big, no fee is too big.” Or so it would seem.
Having recently denied that another Ghostbusters male-centric movie is being produced, insiders at Sony have now confirmed that an animated movie version is currently in the works at Sony Pictures Animation, as reported by The Wrap. While this isn’t related in any way to the upcoming live-action version by director Paul Feig – a movie that has received its fair share of both criticism and praise for the decision to go with an all-female cast for the reboot – I would think that now might be the perfect time to be developing a spinoff project.
Sony are still to get the ideas from their writers on this project and insiders have suggested that the story will be told from the ghosts’ perspective. Honestly I do not like the idea of seeing Ghostbusters done as an animated movie. While I do believe that the studio could make some serious cash from something like this once Feig’s reboot is released, I think that a animated TV series would work better. That way they could draw on the popularity the upcoming feature will surely have with younger audiences when it gets released.
