I didn’t exactly have a lot of love for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, so I’m not entirely sure what it is about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies that has me strangely hopeful for it. The second feature film to be adapted from Seth Grahame-Smith’s wacky revisionist novels, the film takes the Jane Austen story you and your gran loves so much, and throws in hordes of the undead just for good measure.

It’s a ludicrous concept – but it somehow also seems ludicrously fun. Or terrible. Honestly, I still haven’t decided which and this new international trailer for the film, which dropped at the end of last week, is not helping matters much. I love the casting and think that the idea of zombie-slaying-while-wearing-elegant-gowns could be so absurd that it works, but I’m also not seeing any exceptionally crazy wow moments being offered here.

That was sort of the problem with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter as well, as it took itself far too seriously instead of fully grasping its inherent silliness and just running with it. Maybe vampires just suck more than zombies?

Check out the new trailer below.

Pride And Prejudice And Zombies is a fresh twist on Jane Austen’s widely celebrated novel. A mysterious plague has fallen upon 19th century England, the land is overrun with the undead and feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is a master of martial arts and weaponry. Casting aside personal and social prejudices, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy must unite on the blood-soaked battlefield to rid the country of the zombie menace and discover their true love for one another.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was written and directed by Burr Steers (Igby Goes Down) and stars Lily James (Cinderella), Sam Riley (Maleficent), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows), Douglas Booth (Jupiter Ascending), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones). It is scheduled for release internationally on February 5, 2016. Unfortunately we’re going to have wait nearly another month to see it on March 4, 2016.

Still on the fence. This is cheesy enough for my enjoyment but zombies are getting a bit …. stale.
