During CinemaCon in Las Vegas last month, Michael Fassbender revealed to the world the very first footage released from highly anticipated upcoming video game adaptation Assassin’s Creed. Unfortunately, thanks to the unfortunate circumstance of being on the other side of the world – and there’s the little thing of not actually being invited – we never got to see it. Those who did see it though, were absolutely ecstatic with what they saw (this is not normally a sentence associated with video game adaptations).

It’s uncertain when the rest of us plebs will actually get a look at this footage, but luckily 20th Century Fox has decided to throw us a frickin’ bone by releasing a batch of new images from the film (via Portugese site Omelette), which shows off Fassbender in both his modern incarnation as well as his “savage” Middle-Ages alter ego.

If that doesn’t make any sense it’s because the movie sees Fassbender as Callum Lynch “who, through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, is able to experience the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar (also Fassben, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.”

Check out the pics of Fassbender as both men – as well as director Justin Kurzel (Macbeth) on set – in the gallery below.

Assassin‘s Creed is based on and set in the same universe as the multiple award-winning, best selling video game franchise of the same name which has sold over 73 million copies since its inception in 2007. It also stars Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams, Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson. Fassbender also produces. It is scheduled for release on December 21, 2016, which means a trailer is probably just around the corner.
