MOANA

Since Zootropolis mesmerized everyone at the box office earlier this year, we haven’t really had any other strong animation films released, though Pixar’s Finding Dory may change all of that soon. However, Disney’s other big animation film for the year, Moana, is scheduled to come out in time for the American Thanksgiving and is looking to hit the holiday market over that time quite strongly and they are hoping it can gain similar levels of success as Zootropolis had earlier this year. And in an era where too many animated films being released are quite mediocre, then there is money for the taking if your film is actually very good.

And they have just released their first trailer for the film along with a whole host of new screenshots to get the marketing hype building and although not much is getting revealed about the film’s story, it is looking really good. The animation is bright and colourful with a playful, comic tone to it which should slot nicely into Disney’s target market. The story is set in the era of island discovery across the Pacific and in particular focuses on the early legends of the Hawaiian natives. The film stars the voice talent of Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho and is directed by long term animation veterans Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid).

The official synopsis of the film is below:

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes Moana, a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.

The film is due for release in the states on Thanksgiving weekend November 23, 2016. Below you can also catch some further screenshots from the film.
