Season one of Ash vs Evil Dead was like a massively violent industrial accident at a Dairybelle factory: gory and cheesy. But really, fans of Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell’s classic comedy horror trilogy wouldn’t want any other way. Campbell’s titular douchebag hero Ash was back in top form, shotgun and chainsaw hand… well, in hand, as he has to once again battle the demonic forces of Darkness. Which he may have actually released himself when drunkenly trying to impress a lady friend with some “poetry”.

While the recent 2013 Evil Dead movie is also a (sort of) continuation of the original films, and was actually produced by Raimi and Campbell, it’s also more of a reboot/remake with a brand new cast going through a lot of the same plot points from the first film. The film was a decent commercial and critical success, and maybe buoyed by that precedent, US television network Starz decided to extend Ash vs Evil Dead for a second season before a single second of the first season had even aired. Or more likely: they just knew how good it was going to be.

And now, while that second season won’t debut for another three months, we actually have a look at it thanks to the first teaser trailer released for it.

Along with the trailer, the network has also released a new set of pics (via /Film). One shows off Campbell’s Ash along with a badass looking Lucy Lawless as Ruby, the mysterious lady who may just be a woman orphaned by ashes demonic adventures 30 years ago, or actually a demon herself. The jury’s still out. The other pic show’s off the duo looking a bit worse for wear as they’re joined by Ash’s lovably goofy sidekick Pablo (Ray Santiago), and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo), Pablo’s work crush turned demonic slayer herself, on a quest to avenge her dead parents.

Here’s the official synopsis for season two of Ash vs Evil Dead, which will will see the cast expand to include veteran actor Lee Majors as Ash’s father Brock Williams; Ted Raimi (younger brother of Sam Raimi, who also had small roles in The Evil Dead movies) as Ash’s childhood friend Chet Kaminski; and Michelle Hurd (Daredevil) as Ash’s high school love Linda.

The second season roars back into action with Ash leaving his beloved Jacksonville and returning to his hometown of Elk Grove. There, he confronts Ruby. The former enemies have to form an uneasy alliance as Elk Grove soon becomes the nucleus of evil.

The cast is led by Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, “Burn Notice”) in the role of Ash Williams; Lucy Lawless (“Salem,” “Spartacus”) as Ruby, who now possesses the powerful Necronomicon; Ray Santiago (“Touch,” Meet the Fockers) as Pablo Simon Bolivar, Ash’s loyal sidekick dealing with the trauma he suffered in the cabin; and Dana DeLorenzo (A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas) as Kelly Maxwell, who, grief-stricken after the death of her parents, plots revenge against The Evil Dead.

Ash vs Evil Dead‘s ten episode second season is scheduled to debut in the US on Starz sometime in October 2016.
