Movie criminals need to start learning their lesson. If you are going to kidnap/kill (take your pick) someone’s kid/wife/pet, chances are they are an assassin/police officer/special operative who knows more about guns and hand to hand combat than you do. Yes, it might sound unbelievably far-fetched, but in the movie world, it happens more often than you would think.

And this time, it’s Jamie Foxx that gets to go all Liam Neeson on the unsuspecting kidnappers in the trailer for this new film Sleepless. I’m almost instinctively wanting to add … in Seattle to the end of that sentence, but thankfully this looks like something a lot more fun than that. Derivative, predictable and likely repetitive, yes, but still fun.

The one big difference this time is the bad guys knew they were dealing with a dodgy cop in the first place. So I guess they knew they had it coming. It’s also a different angle where Foxx is playing a guy you might not actually want to root for as his actions result in his son getting kidnapped in the first place. That will likely make his quest not just one of revenge, but redemption as well.

While I’m not so sure Foxx is as ruthless a killer as a Liam Neeson or Keanu Reeves, there does appear to be quite a lot more going on in the story and a bit more depth in the supporting characters that it could make it a little more worthwhile and standout from the other films of its ilk.

Alongside Foxx, Sleepless also stars Michelle Monaghan, David Harbour, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Scoot McNairy and Gabrielle Union. The film releases in the US on February 24, 2017. But as for criminals, they’re unlikely to see when its coming…

Looks like a fun movie but way too much given away in the trailer
