With J.K Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them set for its international release this month, there is finally more details emerging about the Harry Potter spinoff. The latest being that mega star Johnny Depp is set to star in the sequel for the yet to be released film. With the colorful characters that we have seen in the Harry Potter movies and with a movie that is sure to be just as packed with interesting characters, it’s a world that I think Depp will fit right into.

At a fan event recently on the 13 October, Rowling revealed that there will be four more installments for the Fantastic Beasts franchise, with shooting beginning next year for the second movie which is set for release on Nov. 16, 2018. There is no details yet on which part Depp will play, all we know for now is that Fantastic Beasts lead Eddie Redmayne will be returning as Newt Scamander, though the rumour mill is suggesting that Depp could possible be playing the role of Gellert Grindelwald.

For the uninitiated, Grindelwald was friends with the young Albus Dumbledore… well, to be more accurate, it’s been all but stated actually that Dumbledore was actually in love with Grindelwald, who did not feel the same way about his friend. The duo fell out though during a duel that resulted in the accidental death of Dumbledore’s sister. Grindelwald would go on to steal the Elder Wand and become one of the most powerful and feared Dark Wizards of all time who waged a war on wizards and Muggles alike.

It was recently revealed that Grindelwald would be playing a central role in the franchise going forward, so it actually makes sense for an actor of Depp’s caliber to take on the role. And it appears that we won’t have that long to wait to see these rumours confirmed, as word on the grapevine is that Depp has filmed a short cameo role in Fantastic Beasts and you can even see the back of his head at 3:20 mark in a new featurette.

Also starring Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Colin Farrell and Jon Voight with David Yates directing, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them releases on November 18 2016 worldwide and on the 25th November for South African Audiences.
