Into the Badlands was certainly unique. It’s not everyday a US TV network puts out a post-apocalyptic fantasy kung fu action drama series. I mean, do those words even belong next to each other? Well, if you’ve see the series 6-episode first season, then you know that’s a resounding yes!

That debut debut gave us some pretty cool action as we followed martial arts badass Sunny (Daniel Wu) as his allegiance to his Baron, Quinn (Martin Csokas) was tested when a mysterious boy, M.K. (Aramis Knight), shows up with inexplicable, uncontrollable abilities and perhaps the secret to life outside the Badlands. M.K.’s appearance kicks off a power struggle, roping in other Barons like The Widow (Emily Beecham), and Quinn’s scheming young wife Jade (Sarah Bolger).

The season ended when [SPOILER ALERT] three mysterious kung fu fighting monks, with the same supernatural abilities as M.K. but in complete control of their actions, showed up to wipe the floor with Sunny. They left him to answer for his previous betrayal of The River King (Lance E. Nichols), before taking M.K. with them to parts unknown.

That finale was about a year ago, and since then we’ve yet to see or hear much about the upcoming second season other than an announcement by AMC earlier in the year that there would in fact be one. However the TV network has now revealed the first images from the upcoming season, giving us a look at Sunny, The Widow, Jade, as well as fan-favourite English actor Nick Frost as Bajie, Sunny’s new scheming ally who may be his only hope at fighting his way back into the badlands to his family and finding M.K.

Along with the pics, we also have the official synopsis for the upcoming season:

Season two of “Into the Badlands” finds Sunny and M.K. separated and scattered to the wind, each imprisoned in unlikely places. While M.K. struggles to control his powers, Sunny is determined to fight his way back into the Badlands to find his family or die trying. On their journey, Clipper and Colt are assisted by mysterious, new allies whose motivations may be anything but pure. Meanwhile, The Widow continues to consolidate power against the other Barons, while a dark and mysterious threat prepares to exact revenge on them all. Alliances are struck, friendships betrayed, and by season’s end, Sunny and M.K.’s lives will be forever altered with devastating consequences.

Into the Badlands’ 10-episode second season is scheduled to premiere in March 2017.
