Avalanche Studios CEO, Christofer Sundberg, might be a nice man when it comes to developing games, but when it comes to looking after his staff, he’s evil incarnate*. The studio that was responsible for Just Cause, has now had to hand 20 employees their walking papers, following the 77 employees the studio let go back in October. Sundberg says that:
These layoffs will not affect the games the studio currently has in development. Just Cause 2 is still set to appear at E3 next month, and the company is even looking to reveal a new game it’s been working on with a publishing partner, though any further details on the project could not be revealed at this time.
Even though knowing that another Just Cause game might hit our shelves soon along with it’s silent new addition, which really does make a smile creep over my face, but sometime or another you just have to say: Damn this recession! Look at what else the bad man had to say:
“It is a difficult business climate, but this is not nearly on the scale of the redundancies last year.â€
“As any other company we need to manage risks and sometimes that unfortunately means that we have to give notice and lay off staff. It’s not more complicated than that.”
Come on. That’s like that nice email that a potential new boss sends you when you apply for a position at his company. It usually goes something along the lines of this:
Dear Mr. Smith,
Thank you for your interest in our company. We however regret to inform you that we currently do not have any available positions at…blah blah blah.
Excuse me while I pour out a drink to all the fallen homies of Avalanche Studios. Live long and prosper boys, and we look forward to the game that will spawn from your vengeful minds!
*He’s not really evil incarnate, that title belongs to Barney
