…For once. I don’t think mere words can illustrate just how much I despise The Big Bang Theory. Or interpretive dance. But let’s just say that I’d rather shove my genitals into a blender than watch a sitcom that is dressed up in nerd culture. At least Tidus finds it funny.
You can thank YouTuber Skylazor for the mish mash of two horrible sides of the pop culture coin. If you’re not familiar with the meme being used to actually prove just how horrendously bad The Big Bang Theory is, then click this link.
But otherwise I could watch this all night. And throw swords at anyone who starts shouting “Bazinga” at me.

That’s the world’s worst fake laugh, and it’ll ruin anything you put it over. Anything that’s even remotely funny will be destroyed by it. How do you even find that slightly amusing? Its terrible. I’d rather watch Twilight on repeat for a week than sit through that video and his laugh again.
TBBT, is in fact funny for many, many, many, many, many people – myself included. Its not accurate, and yes it relies on nerd culture and the lack of understanding thereof to generate laughs, but its funny. It’s not so much the nerd culture that’s funny, rather the characters, who unlike most sitcoms, have personality. That’s more than I can say for quite a few actual nerds or games or sitcoms or movies.
Anyway, you don’t have to like it of course, because tastes differ. I just can’t believe you actually find that laugh amusing, nor do I see why you don’t find TBBT funny. Ah well. Must be a PE thing. (LOL *RUNS*)

I’m with you. I quite like TBBT. I don’t see it as blackface for geek/nerd culture that many other seemingly offended geeks do.

The only people who find it offensive are the ones that are actually as socially awkward as the characters in the show #trollol

Another vote TBBT.
Actually have a few friends (who are physicists and engineers) whose personality and interaction to other people are very close to the characters in the TBBT.

People compare me to Sheldon in real life. Its both funny and embarrassing. Sort of a catch 22 really. With the exception being social skills, I’m not socially awkward like he is, but the mannerisms and shit I say are so similar. Even my sister agrees. lol.

Oh lawd. Worst thing to ever happen to a physicist’s social life. “Oh, so you guys are all like Sheldon”. I’ve never been so happy to hear Tidus. Also, why does the voice actor pronounce it TEE-dus? Surely the whole point of the name was the “tide” part of it?

The people who ask that are narrow minded morons. You should be able to safely ignore them. SOME people are like that yes, but not many. TV shows and movies are dramatised with just enough realism to make it believable, but that’s common knowledge to the people with at least half a brain.
veggiesaurus ZA
October 30, 2013 at 17:31
I’ve got to stop hanging around narrow minded morons, then. I think it’s because we’re not that common, so most people’s only experience of a physicist is a) out of context Einstein quotes about general life (note: his life was a mess… should we really be quoting him on things unrelated to theoretical physics) or b) Sheldon Cooper.

October 30, 2013 at 17:37
And really most of you are just normal guys who love science (not sarcasm). I’ve met a few, and I actively follow the scientific news and community (sadly because I don’t have the qualifications, I don’t have access to certain research papers and the like) – and really I think gamers are more socially awkward than your average physicist. And many gamers aren’t socially awkward – its the exception, not the rule.
But yes, you should spend less time around narrow minded people. Its true what they say, you become that which you associate with. 🙂

I totally agree on that last part! According to Tim Ferris you are the average of the 5 people you spend most of your time with! So best to start hanging out with people who are ambitious and crave success!

My experience is that you get brilliant people who is socially awkard (or just do not give a damn about mundane social interactions) that tend to go into the fields of physics and mathematics as that is all that they find intellectually challenging and stimulating.
But this is not true for all physicists, mathematicians etc.

Humor is subjective and I can understand if the Big Bang Theory is not funny to you. If what you posted is your idea of funny, I suspect that you find very little funny in this world. Then again you are under pressure to produce material for your wed site. in this case producing something is better than nothing. Personally I would prefer nothing.

You are getting a lot of flame for this Darryn. There are definitely better shows out there. Then again, I rarely watch comedy sitcoms. That’s why I’m looking forward to True Detective so much! 😀

To be fair, its more the combination of Titus & TBBT that’s earned him the flame. I’d have less of an issue if he just stated he didn’t like TBBT. Then, its just his opinion, and I’m sure its not a unique one. Uncommon, but not unique by any stretch.
To inflict that laugh on it though, he’s earned the flame. Burn baby burn.

Yeah not sure how you can’t enjoy TBBT. If you can’t relate to the way they geek out about the little things then you can’t really call yourself a geek. I see it as a sitcom that gets geeks/nerds to laugh at themselves and has characters we can relate to much more than any other show out there. Hell even those serious dramas completely misrepresent our little group much more than what TBBT ever has.
