There are thousands of games released every year, and I’m pretty sure we’ve all got backlogs of games that we keep meaning to start playing but never actually get around to. Instead, there are games we keep coming back to instead.
For me? It’s Super Mario Bros 3. I just can’t stop. At least once a year, I load the game up – whether through emulation, or on a real functional Famicom – and tackle as many of the game’s 8 worlds in a single playthrough as I can manage. The other one? A bit shameful I suppose, but it’s Peggle. When I can’t decide what to play, there’s always Popcap’s addictive ball-dropper to keep me company.
Darryn tells me he can’t stop playing Final Fantasy 8 – and now owns the game on 4 different platforms. What games have you held in an abusive relationship? Which ones do you keep coming back to?

Resident Evil 2…. I play through it at least once a year!!! I can’t not play that game, a HD remake could cost R1000 and I would pre order it!! Love Resident Evil 2!!

I used to go back to Oblivion on a regular basis. I haven’t replayed anything for a long time now though – nothing I really feel that keen for, especially since I’m trying to clear out the old backlog a bit. Mafia 2 done!

April 4, 2014 at 10:53
PC. I found it a bit dull to be honest. The actual parts where you’re really playing the game aren’t bad, but not that good either. Driving around to get to the game play becomes tedious & there’s not much else to do in the world besides follow the story missions. The characters & story itself I really enjoyed – that’s what kept me playing, otherwise I would have quit.
DLC was even less interesting because the mission briefings were just a paragraph of text telling you what to do.

Mmm u see , I am not so sure if I wana invest what little time I do have into a game that’s got a bland ” sandbox ” if I could say it like that
How Eva I have very fond memories of mafia 1 , until I ran into the glitch by the part where u had to race
Alien Emperor Trevor
April 4, 2014 at 11:04
It’s not bad, it’s worth it for the story if you enjoy that kind of thing, but as a sandbox it’s not very interesting. I think I only spent around 8/9 hours in total on it.

Why is Peggle shameful? I love it to death…
For me it has to be Silent Hill (Finished 8 times already) . Final Fantsy 8,9 and 7 used to be a yearly thing for me till I got married. Starting my 4th playthrough of Vagrant Story on Vita. Funnily enough, Chrono Trigger, one of my favorite games of all time, I’ve only finished twice really. Please don’t judge me, I don’t know why but I keep playing 3rd Birthday every so often….I have no idea why I really really really really love that game. That said I wana start a 3rd playthrough of Valkyrie Profile and Parasite Eve 2…Also Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy almost always has me coming back for more

i generally don’t replay games because the backlog is just too big.
I do occasionally find myself picking up GH/RB games, plastic instruments are still fun sometimes.
and now that Tony Hawk Pro Skater got ported to 360, I fire that up sometimes for nostalgia’s sake.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R trilogy / universe. I keep going back to it, and always have at least one of the games installed. I’ve done some small mods for them, loads of artwork. And have helped test some of the more ambitious projects. I think it’s the community that keeps pulling me back to help out and the atmosphere of the game that keeps me playing it.

Very much worth it. Just be patient with it. Takes a while to get used to how difficult it is. If you don’t eat, you die. If you get radiation poisoning, you die. If you run into a Chimera, you die.
You’ll get used to dying a lot.

Rockman is the Japanese name of the little blue bomber. Because the NES was only officially released here at the end of its life cycle, most of our NES gaming was done on the Japanese Famicom and its bootlegged clones (like the golden china). so here, he was largely known as Rockman,,right up until Mega Man: Dr. Wily’s Revenge was released on the gameboy in 1991, as the first mega man game to be officially released in the country.

In total, I may be around a similar time, think Ive done 6 playthroughs of ME1, 9 of ME2 and 4 of ME3.
my longest playthrough was 42 hours, my shortest complete playthrough(not getting all the matriarch writings and salarian things etc) was 18.
so if we take an average of 30 hours per playthrough im up to +-570 hours.
got a similar amount of time on Borderlands 2, but that was difficult and nowhere near as much fun as mass effect.
if you looking at somethign to sink more than 1000 hours into, i suggest dota 2.
Im up to 1800, which doesnt include the 1000+ hours i had on warcraft dota.

Pretty much anything graphical adventure, but especially The Curse of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango. CMI was the first adventure game I ever played, and it turned me into a huge nerd for the genre. So, being my first game, it’ll always be right near the top. I reckon I’ve probably played it at least 7 times. GF, I’ve also played it a number of times, and it truly is one of the best ever made.
I can also see myself re-playing the very obscure Inherit the Earth: Quest for the Orb a number of times in the future after playing it for the first time last year. Maybe not the best of the genre, but it just had a certain charm to it that completely blew me away, so anyone into the genre, definitely look into it; at the very least, it’s easy enough to be a gateway drug for anyone new to the genre. Also plan to replay The Dig, Full Throttle, Loom… the list goes on and on and on, so I’ll shut up now. XD
On a COMPLETELY different note, every so often, I get bitten by the UT2004 bug and have to gets me some instagib CTF nuttery.

Recently started playing Motorstorm again – possibly the best arcade racer on PS3? MGS2 (now as part of the HD collection) I have maybe played 50/60 times through. I keep never quite finishing and going back to Peace Walker. I pulled out the box for Resistance: Fall of Man the other day, haven’t had the time to start it.
On PC, GTR2, Portal, the original 3 Tomb Raiders (courtesy of GOG).

Assassin’s Creed 2, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Mass Effect 2, The Last Of Us (all of these completed at least three times now with some being completed probably around ten times).
Honourable mentions:
– From Dust (finished three times now – I know many didn’t like it but I LOVE it)
– SSX Tricky and SSX 3 (my favourite two of the SSX series).
– Diablo II and it’s expansion (so many good memories). Pity it doesn’t look quite as nice as it used to these days (there is however an HD mod that will pump up the resolution and make it not look so crappy)
– Dishonored (well I enjoy going back every now and again but not for complete playthroughs)
– Far Cry 3 (will probably be going in for my fifth or so playthrough again soon followed by a Blood Dragon run)
– Manhunt. Don’t play this as often as I used to however I am busy with another go at the moment, it just gets to be so much fun in the later levels).
