The Elder Scrolls Online is a subscription-based MMO, which seems archaic these days. Bethesda has justified the subscription by saying they’ll be adding tons of content to the game as years go by, without any additional cost to the players who’re already paying through their nostrils to play the game. Here’s a look at the first new content that’ll be coming to the game.
Called Craglorn, the new stuff is meant for veteran players who have friends; yes it’s stuff meant for groups and includes new 4-player quests and 12-player Trials.
“When you first enter Craglorn there’s going to be a mystery that’s set up,” says creative director Paul Sage. “The constellations are missing from the sky and you’re going to hear rumour of these beings called Celestials, and they are the Warrior, the Mage, the Serpent and the Thief, and how they’re impacting Craglorn and what’s going on is going to be what your group discovers.”
Trials, are for those who’re exceptionally good at the game.
“Once you begin you’ll have to overcome a lot of different challenges, such as environmental hazards,” continues Sage. “There’s a lot of different monsters we throw at you, and of course there are boss monsters that have interesting tactics that you haven’t encountered anywhere in the game before. And if all the encounters and bosses weren’t enough, you have a timer that you’re up against and you also have a limited number of resurrections that your group is allowed.”
Bethesda’s saying that Craglorn is The Elder Scrolls Online’s “first Adventure Zone.” Take a look. It’s coming later this month.

I love Bethesda and their games, but if this is the route they are taking (expensive MMO’s), then I will have to reconsider our relationship.

So this is how they plan to push games a s a service? Monthly payments with the promise of new content to justify an exorbitant price. Maybe if it was possible to buy gaming hours. If the $15 bought you 720 hours and it only gets deducted when you actually play, maybe then it could work. But still having to buy the game is a bit much

I was thinking about this as well, kinda like a pay as you go option. I don’t have a problem with a subscription or buying Game time Cards because they are actually giving you new content and expansions that you don’t have to go buy extra like with WoW

But if they deliberately create a section that takes hours to grind through, or is impossibly difficult, that would be exploiting your play-time. If you don’t find it fun to grind. *hehe*

Very true, but then they can write it off as you needing more friends.

Hate subscription based games, or as I like to call them ‘Costception’ games. Hence why I have no interest in playing WoW.
I was going to play this, but then I decided to play Skyrim instead…..that way I don’t need to fork out money on top of the money I have already spent buying the game….

Subscription based games are Archaic, as opposed to what? F2p model? Is that some kind of bad joke?
