At a press conference yesterday Square Enix was kind enough to confirm what we already knew and that is that Final Fantasy XIII will be released in Japan on the 17th of December this year for the PS3 only.
Then the developers are going to be put back to work to convert the PS3 code to Xbox 360 code and add in some English to the dialogue, all this work is expected to be completed by their Spring (northern hemisphere) our Autumn.
The bad news is that FFXIII is being priced at 9240 Yen or around about 40% more than most other titles are being sold for so we could possibly be looking at a price tag of around R1200-R1400 (AUD$140-AUD160) when it gets released here.

I would prefer Japanese dialogue with English subtitles, either way that’ll only arrive with the European release if at all.
The market will decide the price, if it’s not worth it – they’ll need to drop the price after the fanboy rush.
Alternatively, just buy it and resell it… you really don’t lose that much cash that way, maybe like 30%.

Good luck to them selling at that price point.:w00t:
Other releases beginning of next year on my list include:
White Knight Chronicles
God of War 3
Darksiders: Wrath of War
Like koldFU5iON said, just wait it out and buy it in July…

Tsk Tsk Tsk. Go and have a look at the price of Games and Japan, and you’ll see that some titles have been around 9000 Yen for a while. Those same titles sell for $60 in the states.
They have a completely different pricing structure than the rest of the universe.

I doubt it, i think the price is only so high so that people dont import it and play it outside of Japan

They are going to maximise profits whatever that may be (cheap / expensive / standard), and usually that means selling it high initially and lowering price according to demand – they do not owe us anything, it’s a business, sometimes people forget that.

And you, sir, have hit the nail on the head. Notwithstanding the fact that the Japanese are rabid about Final Fantasy, so they’ll pay any price. This game will be priced just like others: $60-70 when it hits North America.
