Keita Takahashi, auteur videogame designer of games like We Love Katamari and Noby Noby Boy says his time as a game designer may be coming to an end.
Speaking to Official PlayStation Magazine, Takahashi cited general apathy as a reason for his tentative departure from video game development, calling this year’s E3 showing “dull,†adding that he’d like to apply his creativity to something besides games.
"I’m actually not thinking about a future in games. It’s not that I’m not interested in them, but I want to try lots of different things," he said. "At E3 I saw people putting on speeches but I thought the future seemed a bit dark," he told the magazine. "The 3D games didn’t spark my interest. "I think motion control’s a bit old now, I don’t think those games are the future. It all seemed a bit dull," he added
On the one hand, I’ll miss his strange brand of genius. He, along with developers like Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Lumines, Rez), Goichi Suda (Killer 7, No More Heroes) and Fumito Ueda ( Ico, Shadow of the Colossus) always seemed keen to try new, interesting ideas.
On the other – if he find gaming to be in a bit of a doldrums, as a game designer isn’t it his job to do something about it?
