Ah, the 1970s. Emerging technology, muscle cars and bad haircuts. And bell bottom pants. American Hustle has been floating around now for a couple of months, as the follow up work from director David O Russell, which has him teaming up again with his Silver Lining Playbooks stars Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.
And the seventies are going to rock hard with Batman and Hawkeye joining in on one of the biggest scams of the century.
A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock the States, “American Hustle” tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down.
Bale seems to be in fine form here, clearly happy that he has swapped a batsuit for some over-sized sunglasses, as he gets pressed into service for the FBI for the legendary Abscam sting. That operation eventually led to the conviction of five US congressmen and a US senator, among various other crooks that were caught.
American Hustle is out in December, and also stars Louis C.K., Alessandro Nivola, Elisabeth Rohm, Dawn Olivieri, Jack Huston, Michael Pena, and Robert De Niro.

Jeez, that looks good. I mean like Scorcese good. My only issue is Christian Bale’s “desperately trying to be from the Bronx” accent
