How on earth do you make a decision for best new IP (Intellectual Property / Franchise) in a year that gave us the nominees below… seriously.
We completely and utterly loved every single game in the nominees list and want to see a lot more of each one, but in the end we had to come to our final decision.
Here are the nominees for best new IP :
Heavy Rain
Enslaved
Vanquish
Darksiders
Limbo
And the award goes to:
Winner: Heavy Rain
Heavy Rain takes our award for best new IP thanks to its wonderful blend of gameplay and cinematic flair that finds itself almost responsible for a new genre altogether.
Playing multiple characters in a deep and mature story that unfolds according to your very tough decisions was something that we just couldn’t get enough of and can’t wait to do again in future.
We are really looking forward to a sequel not only for a great new story but to see how the new “interactive film” controls improve and evolve.
Runner-Up: Vanquish

Personaly I hoped for the other way around, but both Vanquish and Heavy Rain are awesome new IP’s. I actually prefer quality new ip’s, instead of (good but not as grate) sequels that just keeps getting pumped out.

What about Red Dead Redemption?

True, what about RDR? Won game of the year.
Rockstar first though are they crazy in developing a Western but this was way much better than GTA.

It’s not a new ip – it’s the second game in the Red Dead series, the first being Red Dead Revolver.

I 100% agree with this, Heavy Rain brings something completely new to the gaming genre. Anyone want to lend me their PS3 and copy so I can finish it?

*Cough* at Uncle, you are welcome to borrow my house and play it there 😉
Glad Heavy Rain impressed everyone. I still need to check out Farenheit sometime!

I played a bit of Heavy Rain but I just didn’t like it. I loved Vanquish, being a Gears Of War fan it’s easy to see why, it’s just a pity it’s so short

My favorite on that list? Darksiders! Nuff said.

Darksiders was awesome. Yes they did rip a lot of concepts from other games but they did it so well that it all felt right.
Sure portal was an awesome game but using it to fight a giant beast was even better.
If they fix some minor balance issues which they probably will in the next game this could be a GOTY in the next installment.
I must admit I am a little disappointed when I heard you won’t be playing as War in the next one.

Just realised that Bayonetta isn’t mentioned anywhere. One of the best games I played this year for sure!

Vanquish is my GOTY, again I have not played Heavy Rain so I can’t comment for sure on this.

Glad that Limbo did not win this. Whilst it is one of my all time favourite games, it’s basically Braid in Black and White. Heavy Rain did something never seen before (discounting Fahrenheit 9/11, a game by the same company and not a film by a fat man) and took cinematic gaming to the next level.

I would have picked Darksiders. Something Nick said to me about it “Darksiders is the game you sit your non-gamer buddy down to play, cause everyone can enjoy it” and that’s so true.

If it helps at all, I nominated Bayonetta. 😀

I would have to say Darksiders also. To me a new IP is a game that has the potential to deliver a great new franchise (Bobby Kotick’s number one pupil) and Darksiders is the only new IP with that potential.

Vanquish in my opinion was the best IP of 2010, solid game with some great new ideas all executed brilliantly.

This was easily the most difficult one to vote on for me.. But Heavy Rain was just so original it just had to win

Vanquish over here. The one game that makes you a cool bad-ass.

+1 for Darksiders. It certainly took me by surprise and blended the elements it borrowed from other games into a neat little package.

As good as Heavy Rain was,to me it was just more Fahrenheit with a much more realistic story.
(another awesome game mind you)
So,I would’ve gone with Vanquish on this one.Maybe a bit short, but what a freaking rush to play.
Rocket sliding ftw! 🙂
