Living here in the most southern part of Africa, we’re a bit hard pressed for outstanding online performance. Still, there are a handful of games that smile down on us, letting us know that as far away as we are, we still have a place in the online multiplayer world. This year wasn’t the best for the most stable multiplayer launches, but there was one standout title that proved itself better than the rest.
And the winner is… Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare!
Let’s forget Kevin Spacey for a minute and focus on the real star of Advanced Warfare: the Exo Suit. That little sucker breathed life into the Call of Duty franchise once more, taking the game’s multiplayer madness to all new heights. The addition of verticality, as subtle as it is, changes the tried and tested formula entirely, delivering a Call of Duty that truly feels different to the rest.
Not only that, but some of this year’s best multiplayer moments have come from Advanced Warfare’s best mode, Uplink. Scurrying around to get a ball into a goal hasn’t been this entertaining since Liverpool last won the Premier League. So basically it has never, ever been as fun as it is now.
HONOURABLE MENTIONS:
Titanfall, Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, Destiny

No, I think Destiny for the fact that it was playable at launch and the mechanics of the game works, CoD winning seems like favouritism

Agreed Destiny , best launch and best Multiplayer for the year CoD didn’t deserve it Battlefield 4 would also be a better choice.

I myself play BF4 mostly, much more dynamics in play with BF4 but I actually liked Destiny when my internet line worked right

Yep was playing last week quite stable but my two characters not up for a raid yet, got a level 20 that needs more love

favouritism to who? They aer both made by the same publishers?
Destiny was awesome and it did come down to the two of them but COD has it’s multiplayer absolutely nailed… Destiny is more co-op and you can only have 3 in a strike which I think is dumb

It has a proper PVP mode as well, but overall the feel of Destiny is just much better multiplayer wise

December 19, 2014 at 14:14
oh yeah it does.. I HATE the PVP mode of Destiny, feels like a Halo clone.
I was addicted to the strikes and am one of the only people who enjoyed the story really.

I loved it, though I prefer playing against people rather than swarms of bots

Six in a strike would be overkill imo. Some of the strikes can even be done solo. But there isn’t any reason they can increase the number I guess.

I do like the direction COD has gone into. They’ve really freshened the series with the exo suits,

All I want is a next gen WWII COD. Limited, faction based weaponry in a realistic historical setting.
The biggest problem with COD and BF releases these last few years is that there are too many features. It’s almost impossible to balance all the weapons and attachment permutations. Take it all away and replace it with ten different guns and class specific gadgets and then you can devote all the rest of your time to level creation and gameplay.

6 in a strike gives you a raid.

I’d have to politely disagree, because Destiny is more fun playing with people than playing alone. And you can’t say that about most games that has multiplayer. Ask anyone who’s finished a raid. It’s an amazing feeling even if you’ve done it for the tenth time (except when you get your rewards :/)

Haven’t played COD but for me Titanfall and Destiny were great co-op/multiplayer games. FIFA gets a mention as can still be damn good fun when you play someone similar in skill.

I don’t think it matters how good Destiny is, reviewers will punish it for over-hype.

although I am against buying a CoD game after CoD 4, the multiplayer look really cool and fun but if I really really feel like playing a FPS multiplayer game then it is Quake Live <3 it is free and super fun 😉 maybe CS;GO .. ^_^

You mean the COD game that had terrible lag problems? Heh. I’ve seen the bar, and it is low.

I first thought this might be a troll award… It hasn’t been updated so I think they may be serious about this one. I keep forgetting that other people have opinions that may be valid.
Since all the multiplayer games this year came out with serious problems, COD might actually be the best. That bar is so low, even a rabbi, a dog and a priest can’t walk in at the same time.

People obviously aren’t reading what this award is for… it’s not for “best muliplayer game”, it’s for best multiplayer… so it going to COD can make sense if it has the best multiplayer mode of any other game in 2014.
