The developer behind Burnout and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Criterion, has announced its plans for a new open world racing game – and some of its job listings for the project could indicate that it’s being planned for next-gen systems.
The fast car aficionados are currently looking for a new lead software engineer and AI programmer. Both positions talk up the the chance to make “world class games, on cutting edge hardwareâ€, with the lead software engineer job asking for somebody sufficiently capable of helping “create a new extension to the existing Criterion team focusing on developing on new platformsâ€. The Ai Programmer will be tasked with magicking up “believable, open world AI Racing Driversâ€.
It could likely mean that we’ll be seeing a Burnout Paradise-like game on the 3DS, PlayStation Vita or even the Wii U – but it could indicate something more. Microsoft and Sony both insist that next-gen is far off, but rumours increasingly point to an E3 2012 reveal for Microsoft’s new console, with Sony’s coming soon thereafter.
