Homefront 2 has been isolated from the troubles of THQ

Statistically, all communists will appreciate this joke equally.

Homefront was one of those games, that while not really terrible, did little to feel special at the same time. An all too short experience that lacked Patrick Swayze and Wolverine war-cries, the game sold marginally for THQ. And with the publisher undergoing several financial issues right now, you’d think that the sequel is about to be scrapped. Not so says Crytek, as they’re still deep in development.

According to Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli, the canning of several games, studios and employees has had little to no effect on the sequel, which the Crysis and Farcry studio is currently handling. Speaking to CVG, Yerli explained further;

There’s been no tangible change whatsoever. There have been a few meetings and the introduction of people and those meetings are always very transparent.

To be fair, the way we’re developing Homefront 2 is very isolated anyway. We’re treating it as our own new IP and at the same time THQ is respecting us and saying, ‘you guys know what you’re doing’ and telling us the story they’d like to have, which we’re collaborating creatively on.

While Homefront may not be a game that defined the industry, it still had the potential to be so much better than the end result allowed it to be. Perhaps with THQ restructuring to be more focused on fewer games, and with Crytek handling the game, we can get the Red Dawn knock-off that we wanted in the first place.
