Here’s the greatest tragedy in all of Power Rangers: After years of dealing with Rita Repulsa, Angel Grove’s finest Morphin Grid soldiers finally met a threat who could give them a run for their money: Lord Zed. This wasn’t just another flavour of the week villain, this was a big bad whose very presence was a harbinger of evil and destruction.

Boasting one of the coolest monster designs ever, Lord Zed was a force to be reckoned with…and then he was substantially dumbed down because American moms had heart palpitations over seeing their children exposed to pure unrelenting evil. LAME! So why am I talking about a children’s TV show villain in a comic book post? Because A) I’m that much of a dork and B) Power Rangers in comic book form is still one of the best things ever.

Lord Zedd has recently appeared in the pages of BOOM!’s series, a nightmare monster who has wreaked havoc so far and appears to be nigh-unstoppable…or is he? Because Power Rangers #45 looks set to play all the cards in its hand, with a showdown that has been brewing all year. Here’s a sneak peek at it:

After saving their former teammates on Earth, the ALL NEW OMEGA RANGERS decide to take the fight to Lord Zedd! But as they battle evil forces on the moon, it’s Jason—now the Red Omega Ranger—who must face Lord Zedd alone! No matter who wins, nothing will ever be the same for any Power Ranger ever again.

That issue will be out on November 27, with writer Ryan Parrott (Go Go Power Rangers) and Shattered Grid artist Daniele di Nicuolo leading the charge. Should be a blockbuster! Now, on towards the best comic book covers of the week.
