I’ve got this weird idea for the perfect room. The ultimate den. Not Man Cave, never Man Cave. I don’t know why, but I hearing that term is like nails on a chalkboard for me. Anyway, if I were to ever stumble into a massive pile of cash or finally get paid for those 11/10 Call of Duty reviews. If I had that cash, and the space to boot, I’d kind of want to make…my very own comic book shop replica.
I’m fortunate enough to have visited a few iconic shops in my travels, and if there was one shop that I walked away from that left a massive impression on me, it was Forbidden Planet in London. Now that shop on first glance, might strike you as more of a pop culture market than a retailer of comic books. That’s just the top floor however, and once you venture down, it’s magical. Rows upon rows of comic books, creating a labyrinth of shelves and latest releases.
It’s an explosion of publishers and titles, one that feels gigantic in scale and quality. I’d love to create something like that in my dream den. To emulate a winding path through a personal library, decorated by posters and select merchandise that leads to a very comfortable chair, a small table and a few other modest amenities like a coffee machine that is well stocked with pods. One day, I’m going to draw this dream design out properly.
How about you? What would be your ideal cave to get away from life, if you had the cash to flash? Tell me below, or have a browse through this week’s finest comic book covers.
