Has Jason been… Bourne Again? Awful pun, I know, but how often will I get to use it? Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass teamed up to try and give the Bourne franchise some new life – a pity, since I really liked the spin-off starring Jeremy Renner.
Still, action fans are hoping to get a bit of that Jason magic back in their lives, which propelled the new movie into a top spot debut. This breaks a dull spell on the charts that was so uninspiring it helped Legend of Tarzan stay at the top for two weeks. Well, no more, though some might be sad to hear Bourne‘s arrival has stopped the new Ghostbusters from taking the lead. It has to be happy with a second place debut – which is not bad. It’s higher than any Paul Feig or Melissa McCarthy movie outside of Spy.
Humdrum here on out
Everything else on the chart quite literally took two steps down, so there are no real winners or losers. But I would be quick to go and see Lights Out, BFG or God Is Not Dead 2, if any of those catch your fancy. They are bound to leave the top 10 soon.
There are only two ways this can go: either movies have to leave to make space for new arrivals or, like a hedge fund manager, you can pretend that the chart got bigger. Since we are all poor slobs here at The Movies, we have to rely on the tried and tested – in-for-out. Two movies debut, so Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 ends a fairly forgettable run, while local movie Twee Grade Van Moord manages to at least get a t-shirt for attending.
